SACA Awards

The South Australian Chess Association

Official SACA Awards 2005..

Purpose:

To encourage and reward players who show a consistent and high level of performance throughout the year.

Official SACA Titles:

  • Player of the Year
  • Under 1800 Player of the Year
  • Under 1500 Player of the Year
  • Junior of the Year
  • Most Improved Player(s) of the Year
  • Game of the Year

Player of the Year: will be awarded to the player who display a consistent high level of performance in South Australian or interstate tournaments.  Great performances in SA chess championship, Interclub, Pennant, University Open and City of Adelaide will take precedence.

Under 1800/1500 Player of the Year: awarded to players who are rated under 1800 or under 1500 and display a consistent and high level of performance in South Australian or interstate tournaments.

Junior of the Year: awarded to the junior player (under the age of 18 at the 1st of January of that year) that display a consistent high level of performance in both SACA and SAJCL tournaments.

Most Improved Player(s) of the Year: awarded to the players that have shown the greatest increase in rating from the start to the end of the year. 

Game of the Year: will be awarded to the player who plays a game that demonstrates a high level of creativity and intellect against reasonable opposition.

How the winners will be decided:

For the first 5 awards: Each member of the SACA Council will participate in a closed vote at the final SACA meeting prior to the Glenelg Allegro.  The voting card will contain 5 candidates for that award.   Prior to the vote, the Secretary will read out the candidates name and their achievements for that year.

The Game of the Year will be decided by a top South Australian player.

Conditions:

-Prizes are to be awarded only to members of SACA.

-You must enter at least 4 SACA events to be considered.

-Players can win multiple awards

-Games for Game of the Year must be submitted to SACA before December 1st 2005. Each person can submit only 1 game.

-If there are no appropriate candidates, the award will not be given.

Award:

Players will be presented with a framed certificate.

Ceremony:

Awards will be distributed at the completion of the Glenelg Allegro Tournament on the 26th of December 2005.  The awards will be presented by the current President or Deputy President for that year.
